Any good middle eastern and north african dance styles?
Q. I'm a male and I am fascinated with the culture of the middle east and north africa. Are there any good dance styles from that region that are somewhat masculine and that you could perform by yourself in a resturaunt or club? We all know of belly dancing and I read somewhere that many men in those regions (especially Turkey) still belly dance. The problem is my mom doesn't want me to be belly dancing so is there any style that is just as amazing and dazzling as belly dancing but performed by men. Also, if you have any links to sites that have information or show how to perform the dance style, please post them. Thank y'all so much. BTW, I'm already aware of the stick dance and whirling dervishes and those aren't as fun to watch as a belly… [cont.]

A. Hmm... I'd recommend looking for folk dance classes (egyptian, lebanese, greek, etc.). Some of what you'll learn will have a lot in common with the more formalized oriental ("belly") dance you're not allowed to take. Universities often have folk dance clubs. Debke is a very masculine dance (although women do it too sometimes), which uses a lot of stomping. Really dramatic. I'm sorry your mom won't let you bellydance. If she does change her mind, make sure that you find a teacher who has taught men before. Men have a higher center of gravity than women, and so you may need different posture guidance than female students, to avoid hurting your back. Good luck!

What are some cute everyday hairs styles for African-american teens and young adults?
Q. I wear sewn in tracks and i wear my hair down everyday. Im tired of the same old look for school and work. I've looked on the internet but my searches are always fruitless. I need suggestions. Im going to be graduating high school soon and i don't want to go to college with the same look.

A. You an always try wigs. They're a relatively cheap way to change up your look. You can do things like a messy bun, a cute braid down your back, a curly do, adding a cute braid in the front, even things like wearing an elastic band or a ribbon sash or something.

I have shot African hair. What styles can I put it into after washing it that looks professional and classy?
Q. I don't know how to style my natural, African, hair. I get it done at the salon every now and then, but when I decide to wash it, it goes back to natural and it's basically a scraggly afro after being washed. I don't want to wear afros, because I just don't like them. So how do I style it when it's natural? Sometimes putting it in ponytails hurts really bad.
Asked by lost.in.love - Fri Apr 27 23:10:06 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Magazines such as Hype Hair are made specifically for all types of black hair. Maybe, you should their and try some of the styles that stand out to you. And the best part is that they even tell you step by step instructions on how you can do the styles yourself and give you a recommendation on what products to use to help maintain the style. But if you're looking for something quick and easy try twists. It's something that you can do yourself and will last a long time with natural hair.

Does anyone know any websites that display pictures of african hair braiding styles, preferably flat twists?
Q. I have long hair of my own, however I was interested in going to an African hair braiding shop to get flat twists or goddess braids. I'm wanting something a little different than the normal wrap that I wear because of how long my hair is? Does anyone know any websites with african hair braiding hairstyles?

what are good hair styles for african american girls with little hair?
Q. the child is 5yrs do u think she is 2 young for a relaxer? and if i do put 1 in her hair do you think that i can do it 2x a year so that it would not get over process
Asked by kina - Mon Jul 23 22:07:58 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Giving her a relaxer isn't really necessary unless the child has hair with a tight kinky curl (meaning that pressing or hot combing isn't enough to style it). If the child has that type of hair a relaxer is necessary but just use a no lye relaxer. As for hair styles keep it those hair bows and ribbons, braided, twists, and get it curled like in spiral curls and other kid styles like a ponytail that has spiral curls.

Can an african american male pull off asian hair styles?
Q. I'm a black male and my hair is too thick to make straight without damaging my head. I really like the asian hair styles that i've seen. i've tried on a few wigs and i look... different. All i really wanna know is if you saw a black male with one of those trendy asian hair styles, would you think it was strange? I don't mind looking different but i don't want ppl to point and laugh me either. I'm also worried that if i start wearing wigs people will see me as... feminine. What do you think?

Need ideas & advice on African Hair styles & care?
Q. My daughter is from Ethiopia, with softish, fine, reasonably tight curls. I would love for anyone to provide info on any free websites with instructions or own ideas on styles that would suit. I am only a beginner at braids, but can do basic cornrows. Would like to keep her hair looking great with products that are as natural as possible. Have been using olive oil and Dove brand shampoo and conditioner. Any advice will be most appreciated. BTW My daughter is only 3 1/2 years at the moment. Not sure if this helps. Will her hair change texture as she gets older - become more coarse or stay the same? She is adopted, so this is a bit new for me.
