The Mainstream Top 40 (Pop Songs) is an airplay chart from Billboard magazine. It was often mistaken for and confused with the now discontinued Pop 100 Airplay charts (formerly Top 40 Tracks). Whereas the Top 40 Mainstream charts and Pop 100 Airplay both measured the airplay of songs played on Mainstream stations playing pop-oriented music, the Pop 100 Airplay (like the Hot 100 Airplay) measures airplay was based on statistical impressions, while the Top 40 Mainstream chart used the number of total detections. Arbitron sometimes refers to the format as Pop Contemporary Hit Radio. In the June 20, 2009 issue the Top 40 Mainstream chart replaced the Pop 100 Airplay chart. Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga and Beyonce Knowles are the musical acts with the most number ones - each having six #1's. P!nk, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Avril Lavigne are on the second place, each of them having five no. 1 hits, with Boyz II Men, Ace of Base and Black Eyed Peas being the most succesful bands, with three number ones each. JoJo became at the age of thirteen, the youngest solo artist to have a number-one single in the United States, when "Leave (Get Out)" peaked at #1. Lady Gaga is the only artist to have her first six singles peak at #1 consecutively (Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) was not released in the United States).
